Rolling Basis: Part-Time Organizer
To support our efforts to build our newly established local, SWC-UAW Local 2710 and UAW Region 9A are seeking temporary part-time organizers preferably affiliated with Columbia to help with expanding membership and other organizing tasks. These will be twelve-week part-time (20hr/week) positions (with a salary of $563 per week).
Strong applicants will be passionate about continuing to improve working conditions at Columbia, able to work well as a team, highly focused and detail-oriented, and willing to have challenging conversations about the importance of union membership and participation with academic workers from diverse backgrounds. Prior experience with organizing as part of SWC-UAW is not necessary.
Temporary organizers will receive hands-on training and support from experienced SWC-UAW organizers and will work closely with the union’s organizing committee, district and department organizers, and other relevant committees and working groups. Duties will include:
Conducting one-to-one organizing conversations in-person and over the phone to educate and sign up workers in the bargaining unit as union members
Assist district coordinators and department organizers in department organizing efforts
Assist relevant committees with SWC campaigns
Meeting regularly with the organizing committee to troubleshoot progress
Entering data from conversations and helping maintain membership lists
